This was the first leg of the mid-experiment cruise for KESS, conducted aboard R/V Revelle. The cruise entailed 20 working days at sea, May 26 – June 14, 2005, departing from and returning to Yokohama, Japan. The main objectives were as follows:
- profiler/ADCP/CM mooring turn around;
 - launch profiling floats;
